Visual Shopping

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 16, 2007

There are already hundreds of online shopping sites and seriously only couple of them are trustworthy and big enough to satiate everyone’s need.

However, I found a new shopping website BrowseGoods using Stumbleupon which has a pretty different outlay. It is in nascent stage so do not have many things but try their browsegoods.jpgshoes section. Interesting way to show goods. They call their service Visual Shopping Experience.

The site let you see hundreds of products all at once. When you want to see a product more closely you just zoom in to see a larger picture of that product and adjacent products.

Its like going to a mall, go to a particular department, then particular aisle, and then in particular shelf.

P.S. – I have been immensely enjoying Stumbleupon button on my Firefox Browser. Give it a shot, if you have not already done so.

Useless Account

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 7, 2007

Seriously tell me, how many accounts do you have on internet. 100, 200 or 500. Can you lay down a list of atleast 20 websites where you have account. In today’s web 2.0 world, there are hundreds of startup sites, all of which claims itself to be coolest. So when we hear that there is a new player in town, what we do, we rush up and create a account on the site. We log onto the site, do couple of things for uselessaccount.jpgcouple of days or weeks and then forget that we ever had an account on www.xyz.com.
I guess the main reason is you’re addicted to signing up to account-requiring websites the moment they’re released just so no one else takes your usual username.

So just for fun, there is a website called UselessAccount, the sole purpose of which is to create a new account. This is a joke on ‘n’ number of websites popping up everyday requiring registration. Hmmm interesting. So go ahead and get expert in creating an account. Do unlimited editing and change passwords. If nothing, go and read the FAQ. It’s hilarious.

It begins and ends with AT&T

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 7, 2007

As all us know now that Cingular is now AT&T. But wait, didn’t Cingular bought wireless division from AT&T. Does this mean that AT&T bought Cingular.

It’s not that simple but this video from “The Colbert Report” makes us believe once again that Telecommunications begin and end with AT&T. That day is not far when Internet will begin and end with Google.

Favorite Ad

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 6, 2007

Like most of the Indians, my favorite sport is cricket. I just couldn’t relate myself to American Football. But I couldn’t resist the hoophallah around Superbowl ads. I saw few Superbowl ads and they were very crisp and nicely done, especially Godaddy and Coke. You can watch all Superbowl ads here .

After all this, I decided to lay down some of my favorite ads from India. These are the ads which made me nostalgic for good old days. I am sure that any Indian would concur with me on this.

To start with my favorite Ad of all time is Asian Pointsthat of Cadbury Dairy Milk

gemsbond2.jpg Other Ads I really fell close to are below

And finally, the evergreen Mile Sur Mera Tumhara. Not an ad but nonetheless nicely done.

Recycling Tips in GMail Trash Folder

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 3, 2007

I was checking my GMail account over weekend and realized that it’s been a while since I cleaned up my Trash Folder.

Now, Google is all about advertising. Advertising is what got Google to have more than 145 Billion Dollar Market Cap. It misses no chance to monetize on this feature.
So here I was deleting my junk mails and finally went to Trash folder to get rid of everything. On the top, I saw a recycling tip
“Recycled cans can be made into airplanes, appliances, furniture and more.”

Hmm, this deviates from usual Google page. I went to Inbox and then back to Trash. This time the tip was
“Recycled glass bottles can be made into roads, tiles, even surfboards.”

My collection of tips are
* Recycled glass bottles can be made into roads, tiles, even surfboards.
* Recycled plastic bottles can be made into rugs, jackets, fences and more.
* There is no limit to the number of times an aluminum can can be recycled.
* Film canisters can be reused to store nails, screws, buttons and pins.
* Recycling a 3-foot-high stack of newspapers can save one whole tree.
* Recycled paper takes about 60% less energy and water to make than new paper.
* Rubber shoe soles can be recycled to make basketball courts and soccer fields.
* Newspapers can be reused as wrapping paper for gifts.
* Recycled cans can be made into airplanes, appliances, furniture and more.
* Unneeded printouts can be cut and stapled to make notepads.
* Junk mail and newspaper can be reused as package stuffing.
* You can make a lovely hat out of previously-used aluminum foil.
* Empty tissue boxes can provide easy and handy storage for plastic grocery bags.
* Plastic bags can be reused as bin liners or package stuffing.

Look for more tips when you go to Trash for cleanup.

R.I.P (So long Sir Sidney)

Posted by Vaibhav Patle on February 1, 2007

Sidney Sheldon died yesterday at age 89. It was Sidney Sheldon among others who got me started reading fiction books. I remember ‘Tell me your dreams’, ‘The Other Side of Midnight’, ‘Bloodline’ etc.

sheldon.jpgWhen I initially graduated from comics and Hardy boys novel, next stop for me was Sheldon books. He wrote enough to satiate the thrill appetite of a teenager. With time, I found his books to be very predictable and lost interest in his books. I didn’t read his last novel “The Other Side Of Me”.

Nevertheless, anyone who can write and write well has a true gift. We lost an artist that left behind a beautiful legacy in print.

He was also the creator of the Emmy-winning “I Dream of Jeannie” TV series and started writing at age of 50.

Goodbye, Mr. Sheldon and rest in peace.
